How the speed test games work

Lag Chasers is a free internet speed test with four games on one measurement. Chaos Circuit is the race. Moonshot launches rockets toward the moon. Seed Surge grows plants. Tower Time builds skyscrapers. Under the cartoons, your browser is moving real data so we can estimate megabits per second and latency. Faster numbers go further, taller, and higher.

Four games, one measurement

Chaos Circuit maps speed to lap pace. Moonshot maps it to altitude: clouds, atmosphere, orbit, moon. Seed Surge maps it to plant height. Tower Time maps it to floors. Download drives Nitro, upload drives Drip, ping drives Yeet, and jitter drives Glitch. Switching games does not run a second test. The last result can replay in a new scene.

Download heat · Nitro

We fetch large, cache-busted payloads over several parallel connections for about seven seconds. Throughput is (bytes × 8) / seconds, reported in Mbps. Nitro's lap speed maps to that live download number. Fast wifi turns the cheetah into a rumor. Slow wifi turns the cheetah into a jog.

Upload heat · Drip

Random binary blobs get posted to an upload sink so compression cannot cheat the score. Drip the axolotl skates at a speed tied to your upload Mbps. If you only ever stream and never send, Drip will take the scenic route.

Ping hops · Yeet

Tiny requests bounce to the edge and back. We discard the first warmup sample, then take the median round-trip time in milliseconds. Low ping means Yeet hops like a glitch in a good way. High ping means the frog is writing a novel between springs.

Jitter · Glitch

Jitter is how much those ping samples disagree. Stable lines keep Glitch on the asphalt. Spiky connections send the raccoon into banana peels. Gamers feel jitter as rubber-banding even when average ping looks fine.

What this is not

This is not a lab-grade ISP certification and it is not Speedtest.net with a map of servers. Results change with wifi interference, VPN, browser tabs, and time of day. Treat it as a honest snapshot of the path your browser can reach right now — plus a reason to actually watch the test.
